The Moon


HISTORY

The first man on the Moon was Neil Armstrong on July 20, 1969.
The last moon landing was December 11, 1972.
In mid 2007 several countries including United States, Russia, Japan, China, and India announced plans to put their citizens on the moon by 2020.



PROFILE

With the exception of its south pole, the moon is one of the most inhospitable places, with no atmosphere and 1230 C in the day and minus 2330 C at night.

However- Oxygen can be derived from soil
- Water can be extracted from lunar poles
- Food supplies can be imported from Earth
- Power can be supplied by the nuclear power plant charged by the silicon of the Moon’s soil

FUTURE

The first settlement on the Moon will be fully established for four astronauts to live and work permanently by 2024.

The base would be established as a center for science and commerce.

It will function as a base and staging posts for Mars exploration.

Return trip to the moon would cost about $100 billion
